Sony enhances its Creators’ Cloud: direct transfer to Google Drive and Lightroom without a computer

Sony has just announced a major update to its Creators’ Cloud. The new version now enables users of certain Sony devices to transfer their images and videos directly to Google Drive and Adobe Lightroom without needing a computer or card reader. This is a great leap forward for photographers and videographers looking to streamline their workflow.

A simplified workflow thanks to cloud integration

Thanks to this update, JPEG or RAW files can be automatically sent to Google Drive or Lightroom via Wi-Fi, using Sony’s Creators’ Cloud. This makes files easier to access for editing, backup, and sharing, without any additional manual steps.

Note: this is not Lightroom Classic, but rather Lightroom, the version that synchronizes photos in the cloud.

Another key point is Sony’s differential transfer system, ensuring that only newly captured files are uploaded, thereby optimizing bandwidth and storage space.

Storage management suited to various needs

With this update, Sony is also introducing new cloud storage options to meet users’ diverse needs:

  • 5 GB free for all Creators’ Cloud users,
  • 25 GB offered to owners of registered Sony devices,
  • Paid plans available with 100 GB or 500 GB of space, suitable for users who need more extensive storage.

This flexibility allows creators to choose a solution that fits their production volume, whether they’re amateurs or professionals.

Compatibility with recent photo and video cameras

This feature is available on several recent Sony models, including:

To activate the service, you must use the Creators’ App, available on Android and iOS. Some models will require a firmware update to fully benefit from this feature.
