CP+ 2026: Samyang explores four ambitious lenses, from 20-50 mm f/2 to 200 mm f/1.8 OIS. Vote for your favorite.

At CP+ 2026, Samyang exhibited its future 60-180 mm f/2.8 zoom lens for the first time at its booth. But away from the hustle and bustle of the show, far from the eyes of visitors, we were also able to discover 3D prototypes of potential future lenses for full-frame hybrids. These are ambitious concepts, still shrouded in mystery. Here is an overview of these promising developments, based on information gathered on site.

Samyang, between product planning and user feedback

At CP+ 2026, we had the opportunity to speak with Kim Dubin, Product Planning Manager at Samyang. This meeting allowed us to discuss several full-frame objectives currently being considered by the manufacturer, both in the short and medium term. It was an opportunity to learn more about the strategic directions and areas of development being considered by the South Korean lens manufacturer.

Currently, the lens manufacturer is exploring four different concepts in order to gather feedback from its users, as well as the media, before determining which lenses would be most relevant to produce and then market.

Samyang specifies that the information shared with us has not been confirmed for production at this stage and is still in an exploratory phase intended to gather user feedback. The features mentioned are therefore subject to significant change and may never be commercially launched.

The f/2 aperture, the next standard for Samyang zoom lenses?

Among these potential new products are two ultra-bright zoom lenses: a 20-50 mm f/2 FE wide-angle zoom lens and a versatile 28-85 mm f/2-2.8 FE zoom lens.

Samyang AF 20-50 mm f/2 FE: a wider and brighter wide-angle zoom lens

The Samyang AF 20-50 mm f/2 FE is a zoom lens designed to meet strong demand for a zoom with an aperture brighter than f/2.8 and, above all, a wider focal length than the traditional 24 mm wide angle.

It is reportedly still in the early stages of development, and its launch is not expected before 2028 or 2029, mainly to avoid cannibalizing the current AF 24-60 mm f/2.8 lens that the manufacturer has just launched. Due to its larger aperture, this zoom lens would be bigger and heavier than the current 24-60 mm lens.

Samyang AF 28-85 mm f/2-2.8 FE: versatile zoom lens with bright, variable aperture

The other option being considered would be a 28-85 mm f/2-2.8 FE AF zoom lens. It was initially planned to have a constant f/2 aperture, but Samyang ultimately opted for a variable aperture in order to reduce its size. Unstabilized and slightly larger than the new 24-60 mm, this zoom could be released in late 2027 or spring 2028 if feedback is positive. It would thus compete directly with Tamron’s 28-75 mm f/2.8 zoom and Sigma’s 28-70 mm f/2.8 on the E-mount.

The Samyang AF 28-85 mm f/2 FE could instead be f/2-2.8.

Samyang AF 28-135 mm f/2.8 FE: the next king of versatility?

Absent from the CP+ booth, but very real (and already “presented” at IBC 2025), the 28-135 mm f/2.8 is reportedly already in production for a release scheduled for late 2026 at the earliest.

More versatile than the recent Tamron 35-100 mm f/2.8 DI III VXD (or even the Sigma 28-105 mm f/2.8 DG DN Art), it is expected to feature a new linear autofocus motor (VCM). This would replace the current stepper motors, which showed their limitations in video and when tracking fast-moving subjects.

Long telephoto lenses with stabilization and internal teleconverter?

Samyang is also exploring the long fixed focal length segment, a sector in which only a handful of players are present. We could therefore see the arrival of two lenses: the AF 300mm f/4 FE OIS and the AF 200mm f/1.8 FE OIS.

Samyang AF 300mm f/4 FE OIS: stabilization and built-in teleconverter

The Samyang AF 300mm f/4 FE OIS is a fixed focal length lens inspired by SLR-era optics. It is aimed at wildlife and sports photographers looking for a longer and more affordable alternative to a classic 70-200mm f/2.8 zoom lens.

The South Korean manufacturer could even consider integrating an internal 1.4x teleconverter (which would become a 420 mm f/5.6) to circumvent licensing restrictions on external converters from major manufacturers. We can also see that the lens would have numerous controls. But perhaps the most interesting feature lies elsewhere.

As you may have noticed, the OIS designation could mean that this lens would be Samyang’s first with optical image stabilization (OIS).

The manufacturer is currently developing its optical stabilization system, which has been tested on 135 mm f/1.8 prototypes. This stabilization technology could be used in the manufacturer’s future telephoto and long-focus lenses if the benefits prove to be significant.

Although no pricing has been finalized yet given the early stage of development, Samyang is already positioning itself very competitively for this target market.

Samyang AF 200mm f/1.8 FE OIS: a technological demonstration?

Finally, the last 3D mockup presented is that of an astonishing lens, the Samyang AF 200 mm f/1.8 FE OIS. This bright long focal length lens would be a real technological showcase, attempting to stand out from the 200 mm f/2 offerings from Laowa and Sigma.

For Samyang itself, producing this type of lens could be costly, particularly given the inclusion of optical stabilization, which is still new to Samyang, but the manufacturer wants to listen to market demand and, above all, show what it is capable of. This is a legitimate approach when you consider the threat posed by numerous Chinese lens manufacturers who are juggling large apertures, stabilization, autofocus, and very attractive price/quality ratios.

It should be noted that Samyang could only market one of these two lenses to avoid them competing directly with each other.

Strategy and development on other mounts

We were able to briefly discuss the strategy for expanding to other platforms.

As you may have noticed from the lens names, the Sony E-mount remains the priority, but Samyang has confirmed its commitment to the L-Mount alliance. In fact, the 14-24mm f/2.8 has just been released in an L-mount version, and the upcoming 60-180mm f/2.8 will also be available in this mount. According to their data, the L-mount market is quite dynamic in China and Europe, but less so in Japan and South Korea.

As for a potential arrival on Canon RF and Nikon Z mounts, the lens manufacturer is still waiting for official licenses from the Japanese manufacturers. But, interestingly, the latest AF 24-60 mm f/2.8 would already be technically easy to adapt to the RF mount, due to a short flange back distance in the lens design.
