New LK Samyang zoom lens. Presented at the IBC Amsterdam—alongside two very interesting zoom lens prototypes—the Samyang AF 24-60 mm f/2.8 FE lens is designed for Sony full-frame mirrorless cameras. The result of a collaboration with Schneider-Kreuznach, it joins the AF 14-24 mm f/2.8 zoom lens and also offers two major advantages: compactness and affordability.

Sommaire
Samyang AF 24-60 mm f/2.8 FE: the second zoom lens designed with Schneider-Kreuznach
Remember: in 2022, Samyang launched its AF 24-70 mm f/2.8 FE lens—which was also its first zoom lens with autofocus motorization. It is this lens that the South Korean brand now intends to replace with a successor.

This new transstandard zoom lens is also the second result of the collaboration between LK Samyang and Schneider-Kreuznach. It joins the Samyang AF 14-24 mm f/2.8 FE, which was launched in spring 2025. It offers the same advantages, being compact, bright, and lightweight, appealing to enthusiasts of reportage, travel, portrait, and everyday photography.

Atypical focal range and f/2.8 aperture
This Samyang lens stands out for its 24-60 mm focal range, shortened at the zoom’s minimum setting. This feature is reminiscent of the Lumix S 24-60 mm f/2.8 zoom lens (May 2025) and can be explained by the desire to reduce the size of the lens.
In terms of optical design, the Samyang AF 24-60mm f/2.8 FE will feature 14 lenses in 11 groups. It includes 3 HR (high refractive index) lenses, 2 ED lenses, and 3 aspherical lenses to increase sharpness and reduce aberrations.

The constant aperture of f/2.8 is ensured by a 9-blade diaphragm. The result is a beautiful bokeh effect and easier low-light shooting. The minimum focusing distance is quite short: 18 cm at wide angle, 32 cm at full zoom. In terms of autofocus, the lens benefits from STM motorization, which should prove fast and accurate for photos and sufficiently flexible for videos.

However, the lens does not feature optical stabilization and relies on the IBIS system found in Sony cameras. This decision was also driven by the desire to keep the lens lightweight and compact.
A lighter transstandard
With this zoom lens, Samyang aims to offer “ergonomics designed to meet the needs of photographers, videographers, vloggers, and content creators.”
The lens is particularly compact: 10.2 cm at wide angle, 12.6 cm at full zoom—with a maximum diameter of 7.8 cm and a weight of 494 g. This makes it remarkably light for a transstandard zoom lens—albeit one with a “truncated” focal range.

In terms of manual controls, the Samyang AF 24-60mm f/2.8 FE is pretty well equipped. It features a zoom ring, a MAP ring, an AF/MF switch, and a customizable control button. It also has a USB-C port for updating the lens. Finally, the lens is equipped with seals to better resist dust and water splashes.

Price and availability of the Samyang AF 24-60 mm f/2.8 FE

Our first impressions of the Samyang AF 24-60 mm f/2.8 FE
LK Samyang has made a big splash with this new transstandard zoom lens. The AF 24-60 mm is one of the lightest zoom lenses with an aperture of f/2.8. Admittedly, the Sony FE 28-60 mm f/4-5.6 is much lighter (weighing only 167 g) and less expensive, but it is also much less bright.
Beyond that, this zoom lens stands out for its extremely competitive price. The Samyang AF 14-24mm f/2.8 FE was launched at $1,199, while the 24-70mm f/2.8 was launched at $799. The AF 24-60mm f/2.8 FE goes one better, claiming the title of the least expensive f/2.8 transstandard zoom lens on the market at launch.
For users of a full-frame Sony hybrid camera, the range of options is particularly wide—and this new lens from Samyang looks promising, to say the least. Hopefully, it will also be available soon in an L-mount version, since Samyang is part of the L-Mount Alliance.
