Panasonic Lumix Flow: an advanced application for videographers

Alongside the launch of the Lumix S1R II, Panasonic has unveiled the Lumix Flow mobile app. It aims to streamline video production workflows by assisting with scriptwriting, storyboard editing, and video editing. The app is designed for both amateur and professional videographers.

LUMIX Flow Overview

Panasonic is clearly betting heavily on its smartphone applications. Following the Lumix Lab app, which allows users to create or download color profiles and LUTs directly to their camera, the company now introduces Lumix Flow.

The Lumix Flow app (available for iOS and Android) transforms your smartphone into a video assistant. It offers video monitoring between the phone and a Lumix camera but is primarily designed to assist videographers with planning and capturing sequences for their projects.

The app allows users to create a storyboard to visualize composition and scene breakdown. You can also write your script directly within the mobile app. Additionally, a shot list tool ensures videographers capture all necessary sequences before leaving the filming location.

For your storyboards, Lumix Flow allows you to visually indicate the position and posture your actors should adopt using small figures. Simple but effective!

Beyond planning, you can start recording and edit videos directly within the app. Videographers can also review each take in real time, marking successful shots and discarding unusable ones.

When importing footage into compatible software like DaVinci Resolve or Adobe Premiere Pro, these annotations are preserved. Additionally, an XML file generated by the app automatically arranges your sequences in the desired order on the timeline. This greatly simplifies the editing process. We had a preview of this feature at Panasonic’s booth during CP+ 2025, and the results are quite impressive.

Notably, the app can also be used in stand-alone mode, without a camera, functioning as a standard mobile camera app but with advanced editing options. Compatibility with Final Cut Pro is also planned for a future update.

Price and Availability

The Panasonic Lumix Flow app is available for free on the App Store and Google Play.

Although it launches alongside the Lumix S1R II, Panasonic confirms that the app will later be compatible with the Lumix S5 II, S5 IIX, and GH7. The company also clarifies that while external monitoring features are exclusive to Lumix cameras, the storyboard and shot list functions can be used with any camera.

The Lumix Flow app is available for Android 10.0 and later, as well as iOS 15.4 and newer. It is also compatible with Android tablets, with iPad support planned for a future update. While a device with a USB-C port is recommended, older iPhones remain compatible via a USB-C to Lightning adapter.
