At CP+ 2025, Leica, Panasonic, and Sigma held a conference to discuss the latest products released with the L-Mount as well as the future of the L-Mount Alliance, which is celebrating its 7th anniversary this year.
The panel featured Kaoru Mokunaka, representative of Leica Camera in Japan, Yasuhiro Ozone, technical advisor at Sigma Corp, Toshiyuki Tsumura, director of the Imaging Business division at Panasonic Corp, as well as photographer Herbie Yamaguchi.

While they reviewed the latest L-Mount products—including the Lumix S1R II from Panasonic, the Sigma BF and the 300-600mm f/4 DG OS Sports from Sigma, or the SL3-S from Leica—the discussion also focused on the future of the L-Mount.
Thus, Kaoru Mokunaka confirmed that the L-Mount Alliance is actively seeking new members and that several companies have expressed interest in joining the L-Mount Alliance. As a reminder, the alliance currently consists of seven companies: Leica, Panasonic, Sigma, DJI, Blackmagic Design, Samyang, and Astro.

The first L-Mount camera was the Leica TL, unveiled in 2014. Today, there are approximately 100 lenses and around twenty cameras using the L-Mount, a significant increase since the announcement of the L-Mount Alliance at Photokina 2018.
According to Mokunaka, this expansion aims to offer consumers more choices and strengthen the L-Mount’s appeal as a key standard for hybrid photo and video cameras.
Among the companies that have expressed interest, Viltrox stands out as a serious candidate. Known for its affordable lenses, Viltrox could provide budget-friendly alternatives for L-Mount users, as evidenced by this year’s announcement of new lenses.
For now, no official announcement has been made, but since this conference was held publicly at the Lumix booth at CP+, it is highly likely that things will evolve in the coming months, further enhancing the L-Mount’s appeal with new players.
