CP+ 2025: DxO PureRAW 5 Enhances the Processing of Fujifilm X-Trans Files With DeepPrime XD 3

PureRaw shifts into 5th gear. At CP+ 2025, French software developer DxO unveils PureRAW 5, the latest version of its RAW demosaicing and noise reduction software. It leverages third-generation algorithms and introduces several exciting new features, including a local adjustment brush and an optimized interface—not to mention advanced processing for Fujifilm X-Trans sensor cameras.

DeepPrime 3: Say Goodbye to Chrominance Noise!

First introduced with PhotoLab 4 (October 2020), DxO DeepPrime continues to evolve. Still relying heavily on Deep Learning, this third-generation demosaicing and denoising engine promises enhanced performance in terms of both processing speed and digital noise reduction.

More specifically, this new technology adds an additional processing step by removing chromatic aberration directly during the RAW file conversion process. As a result, the software can directly address residual chrominance noise at the pixel level. The outcome: improved color rendering and better overall image quality, according to DxO.

DeepPrime XD 3 Available (in Beta) for Fuji Cameras

Alongside the standard DeepPrime engine, the XD engine was developed to provide “the most advanced processing possible for the most demanding files,” according to DxO. It is particularly effective at reducing digital noise at very high ISO settings and in complex patterns—a crucial feature for wildlife and nature photographers.

With PureRAW 5, DxO introduces (in beta) DeepPrime XD3 for users of Fujifilm X-Trans sensor cameras. Interestingly, DxO is skipping straight to version XD3—bypassing the XD2 and XD2S versions initially promised to Fuji users since 2024.

In a statement, DxO emphasized its commitment to bringing “the next generation of noise reduction and detail extraction” to Fujifilm users. The level of detail and texture rendering are said to be significantly improved, reaching “image quality levels never before seen with existing solutions,” claims the company.

A New Local Adjustment Tool

PureRAW 5 also introduces a new tool for applying local adjustments. Similar to PhotoLab, it features a brush that allows photographers to quickly select one or more subjects.

The idea: to enable photographers to recover more details in a specific area of the image while preventing excessive blurring in the background. DxO notes that this system is based on the U-Point mask and is compatible with smart objects, providing additional flexibility for retouching.

Redesigned Interface and Custom Presets

With this update, DxO introduces a redesigned interface that is intended to be more user-friendly and closely aligned with the latest versions of PhotoLab and Nik Collection. Naturally, the software remains fully compatible with Lightroom Classic, ensuring seamless integration into photographers’ workflows. The batch processing feature is still present.

Additionally, DxO now allows users to create their own presets, selecting parameters that best suit their camera, depending on subject type or ISO settings, for example.

DxO PureRAW 5 Pricing and Availability

DxO PureRAW 5 is available for pre-order on the official DxO website. Deliveries will begin on April 15, 2025. Until then, DxO offers a free upgrade to PureRAW 5 with any purchase of PureRAW 4.

The pricing remains unchanged: a standalone license is available for €119, while an upgrade from version 3 or 4 is offered at a discounted price of €79.

A free trial version is also available for download on the DxO website, allowing users to test the software for 14 days.

Our First Impressions of PureRAW 5

Less than a year after the launch of PureRAW 4, DxO introduces the latest version of its flagship RAW noise reduction software. While the introduction of the DeepPrime 3 engine is a noteworthy improvement, this V5 is particularly significant for Fuji X-Trans camera users thanks to the beta release of the much-anticipated DeepPrime XD—designed to recover the finest details at very high ISO.

With this update, DxO PureRAW continues to mature and proves to be an excellent choice for improving image quality and reducing digital noise. However, one minor drawback remains: these new features come with a paid upgrade. This highlights one of the limitations of a lifetime license model.
