Samyang took advantage of the excitement surrounding CP+ 2026 to very discreetly unveil its future Samyang AF 35mm f/1.8 P FE lens. Although no technical specifications have been released yet, the lens was on display, confirming the upcoming renewal of a classic from the South Korean lens manufacturer’s catalog for Sony full-frame mirrorless cameras. We were able to take a quick look at it: here are our first impressions.

The Prima philosophy applied to the 35 mm f/1.8
This newcomer would replace the AF 35mm f/1.8 FE released in 2020, which impressed us with its excellent value for money. The addition of the letter “P” (referring to the Prima range) indicates that Samyang is applying the same formula here as for its recent AF 85mm f/1.8 P FE and AF 16mm f/2.8 P FE lenses launched in the summer of 2025.

Based on the copy we were able to get our hands on, this new version should offer:
- a modernized design with a wider textured focus ring;
- a template almost identical to the 85 and 16 mm ones from the same series;
- a USB-C port, as well as an AF/MF switch.

We can also expect a more robust construction that is better protected against the elements. Similarly, the autofocus will undoubtedly be optimized and quieter to meet the requirements of the latest Sony hybrids.

Price and availability of the Samyang AF 35mm f/1.8 P FE
At this time, no information regarding availability or pricing has been released.
For comparison, the Samyang AF 85mm f/1.8 P is priced at $399, and the AF 16mm f/1.8 P at $391.
Our initial opinion
Samyang has modernized a classic lens with this AF 35mm f/1.8 P FE, which appears to have inherited the more robust construction of the 85mm f/1.8 P. Compact and discreet, this lens promises to be a practical upgrade for photographers looking for a high-performance lens without the bulk or price tag of f/1.4 lenses.
We will be sure to keep you informed as soon as the full specifications, release date, and price are officially announced.
