On the first day of CP+ 2026, Sigma announced the development of a new premium fixed focal length lens. The highly anticipated Sigma 85mm f/1.2 DG Art will complete the lens manufacturer’s range of ultra-bright lenses. It will be available from September 2026 in Sony E and Leica L mounts.
Sommaire
The Sigma f/1.2 lens trilogy is finally complete
A flurry of announcements from Sigma at CP+ in Yokohama. Two days after unveiling the Sigma 35mm f/1.4 DG II Art and Sigma 15mm f/1.4 DC Contemporary (not to mention the brand’s surprising foray into rice farming), the Japanese lens manufacturer has lifted the veil on a highly anticipated lens: the Sigma 85mm f/1.2 DG Art.
It will join the Sigma 35mm f/1.2 DG II Art (launched in September 2025) and the Sigma 50mm f/1.2 DG DN Art (April 2024). “With the addition of this lens, Sigma’s range of fixed focal lengths opening at f/1.2 is now complete,“ the manufacturer said in its press release.
Finally, this lens will offer a brighter alternative to the Sigma 85mm f/1.4 DG DN Art (released in August 2020).
Masterful design and HLA autofocus
For now, Sigma remains tight-lipped about the detailed technical specifications. However, we do know that this 85mm f/1.2 lens will feature a compact and lightweight design. As a reminder, the recent 50mm f/1.2 DG Art lens already boasts very compact dimensions, measuring 10.8 cm long and weighing 745 g.

Although the exact optical formula remains unknown, it is more than likely that it incorporates numerous low-dispersion elements. Sigma promises “exceptional resolution right from the maximum aperture.” Designed specifically for portrait photographers, this 85mm lens should offer extremely smooth rendering and very gradual background blur.

In terms of autofocus, the lens will feature a dual HLA (High-response Linear Actuator) motor, already found on most of the brand’s recent lenses.

Price and availability
The Sigma 85mm f/1.2 DG Art will be available in September 2026 for Sony E-mount and L-Mount cameras.
If no official price has been leaked, we can expect aggressive positioning. For reference, the Sigma 35mm f/1.2 DG II Art and Sigma 50mm f/1.2 DG DN Art were both launched at $1,549.
Our first impressions of the Sigma 85mm f/1.2 DG Art
With this new ultra-bright lens, Sigma is targeting bokeh lovers and portrait professionals. Especially since Sony does not (currently) offer any equivalent lens. Combining high-end optical quality with a compact size, this 85 mm lens should be a fitting conclusion to the lens manufacturer’s f/1.2 trilogy. A highly anticipated release for September.
