Fujifilm X100VI: photographer adds film advance lever “for style”

A Chinese photographer recently drew attention to himself by modifying his Fujifilm X100VI with a film advance lever… purely for decorative purposes.

Shared by FujiRumors, this simple yet stunning idea takes the already strong retro aesthetic of the famous APS-C expert compact even further.

Attached to the rear of the X100VI at the exposure compensation wheel, the lever obviously controls no internal mechanics – except to overexpose the image with each manipulation. However, it completes the retro look that Fujifilm already cultivates in the design of its compact hybrids.

In particular, it echoes the latest Fujifilm X half, which benefits from a real lever to advance the film in the camera’s Argentique mode.

On social networks, opinions are divided between cool winks and useless gadgets.

This little do-it-yourself project, which doesn’t alter the technique or image quality, embodies some photographers’ taste for personalization and nostalgia. It’s a playful way of combining style and practicality, even if the lever has no purpose other than the gesture.

What do you think? Should Fujifilm integrate this type of functionality into its next cameras? While we’re still waiting for the successor to the X-Pro3, the manufacturer, which has already hidden the rear screen behind a small film simulation display, could push the nostalgia for film even further, who knows.
