While wandering around the Nikon booth at CP+ 2026, we spotted a Nikon Zƒ with a very special feature that should appeal to the most nostalgic photographers: time stamping directly on your images.

A discreet announcement
At CP+ 2026, announcements varied greatly in importance, with some going almost unnoticed. The upcoming feature for the Nikon Zf, which could be rolled out via an update, clearly falls into the latter category, as does the fluorescent “Bayhem” ZR.
While carefully observing the Japanese manufacturer’s stand, we came across a rather unusual Zf camera with a time stamp function. This allows the date the photo was taken to be “printed” directly onto the photos. It is therefore possible to add a small (permanent) inscription to JPEG photos in the bottom right-hand corner.
On the prototype we were able to test, the date is displayed in orange-red by default. When switching to monochrome mode, the date is displayed in white.
While this may seem trivial to you, others will appreciate—in moderation—being able to play around with the feature.

Combine this with film grain mode and you’ll get an image that will remind you of the heyday of digital compact cameras in the early 2000s. Unnecessary, yet indispensable.

Availability
When asked at their booth, Nikon told us that this feature was not yet planned to be added to the Nikon Zf via update. In fact, the feature wasn’t even accessible via the camera menu, as it was still a prototype. This is likely a way to gather user feedback before launching the feature. It reminds us of the meowing sound for the Z9 shutter release that Nikon presented at CP+ 2022. We will keep you updated on future developments.
