Adobe launches Photoshop on Android, a few months after the iOS version. Currently in beta, the app includes Adobe Firefly’s latest generative AI features, available for free during this phase. A notable advancement for creatives and photographers on Android.

A redesigned version for Android
Unlike Photoshop Express, which was limited to quick and basic edits, this new version of Photoshop for Android offers a more complete experience, inspired by the iOS version but entirely rewritten for Google’s system. Adobe has specifically worked on the interface and usability to make advanced operations accessible, such as layer management, masking, or object selection, while adapting to touch interaction and small screens.
Among the app’s key features are professional tools like layer management (with various blending modes) and masks.
There’s also smart object selection, allowing users to quickly isolate an element on the screen with a simple tap. This tool, like many others, leverages Adobe’s algorithms.
As with iOS, Photoshop on Android also provides access to Firefly generative AI features, such as Generative Fill (adding or removing elements with realistic rendering), Generative Expand (intelligent image extension), and automatic object detection.
Photoshop on Android also grants access to the Adobe Stock library for graphic resources. The app also enables file synchronization across devices via Creative Cloud, making it possible to start a project on desktop and continue it on mobile.

Free access to generative AI during beta
Currently, the Android version of Photoshop is freely available in beta on the Google Play Store.
All features, including advanced tools and AI, are fully accessible during this testing phase. Adobe has not yet announced the final release date or pricing for the Android app, but it’s expected to follow the iOS model: a limited free version and a paid subscription to unlock all features, especially those related to AI and advanced synchronization.
On iOS, Photoshop Mobile (and Web) costs €8.99 per month, or €79.99 per year. The app is also included in Creative Cloud subscriptions, such as the new Creative Cloud Pro, which Adobe is set to roll out from June 17, 2025 (in the United States initially).
Our first impressions
As with Photoshop for iPhone, this app will appeal to photographers and creatives on the go, offering an easy way to edit images — particularly thanks to Adobe’s recent advances in artificial intelligence.
Synchronization with the Adobe ecosystem is also a strong point – though unsurprisingly, it requires a paid subscription. However, during the beta, Adobe allows all users to enjoy premium features, especially the Adobe Firefly generative AI for editing or adding elements to images.
Adobe notes that all smartphones running Android 11A and above are compatible, but at least 6 GB of RAM is required (8 GB recommended). On iOS, even a 2021 iPhone 13 Pro couldn’t run certain selection and/or subject replacement options due to RAM limitations!
With this launch, Adobe fills a gap on Android and finally offers a serious alternative to competing solutions such as those from Google Gemini or Samsung.
