From May 2 to June 21, 2025, the London-based ATLAS gallery pays tribute to Marc Riboud (1923–2016) with the exhibition Peace in The Making. While the Guimet Museum highlights his work on the Vietnam War and its human consequences, London celebrates him as a committed witness for peace.
A Universalist Exhibition
Entitled Peace in the Making, in reference to Robert Capa’s book Death in the Making (a collection of images from the Spanish Civil War published in 1938), the exhibition presents a selection of images in color and black and white, among the most iconic by the Magnum agency photographer.

Several of his photographs closely tied to the Vietnam War, such as the legendary Flower Girl taken in Washington during a peace protest, will also be on display.
A Mosaic Work in Search of Peace
The common thread of this selection of images taken in the aftermath of World War II and the Vietnam War : peace. Its hard-won achievement and slow reconstruction always attracted the photographer’s lens far more than the horrors of conflict.

In Paris, Prague, or Beijing, Marc Riboud captured humanity, beauty, and above all hope—a source of peace. Through symbolic images—moments of silent resistance or key scenes of reconciliation—his photographs remind us that peace is built more than it is declared.

In counterpoint to these images, several prints testify to revolts and protests—reminders of the precarious and fragile nature of peace, but also of the importance of collective commitment to achieving it.

At a time when war is being redefined, Marc Riboud’s example invites us more than ever to rethink peace. The exhibition Peace in the Making is on view at the ATLAS Gallery in London until June 21, 2025. The prints available for sale, several of them signed by the artist, can be seen at the gallery or on its website.
