Fujifilm teases a new “half frame” camera?

Fujifilm has just unveiled a teaser for what appears to be a new camera body. The tagline “Half the Size, Twice the Story” seems to confirm rumors of a digital camera featuring an innovative half-frame sensor. For now, no additional information has been shared, so we’ll have to be patient to learn more.

One month after the announcement of the GFX 100RF – a medium format expert compact combining the strengths of the X100VI and the GFX 100S II – Fujifilm seems ready to unveil a second body. This could be the much-anticipated “One More Thing” teased by Yuji Igarashi, Director of the Professional Imaging Group, during the 2024 X-Summit in Tokyo.

In the video, you can make out the silhouette of a body featuring an offset viewfinder, a control dial on the right shoulder, and a pill-shaped rear screen that notably displays the film simulation in use.

Fujifilm simply includes a small poll in the description: “Explore your mind. What kind of camera can you expect with such a form and a message? Stay with us and be the first to witness the new product due up next!”

But what really caught the attention is the title of the video, hinting at the arrival of a camera equipped with a sensor “half the size” of a standard one, to tell “twice the story.” A wording that clearly evokes the half-frame concept, as seen on the Pentax 17, but this time with a digital sensor.

Stay tuned.
