CP+ 2025: OM System Roadmap, a New 40-150mm Zoom on the Way?

OM System takes advantage of CP+ 2025 to unveil a new lens roadmap. A future telephoto lens is revealed, potentially with a 40-150mm focal length. Its white finish suggests a professional orientation, similar to the 150-400mm telephoto zoom launched in late 2020.

OM System: New Camera, New Roadmap, New Telephoto Lens

OM System is back in the spotlight. Just weeks after the highly anticipated launch of the OM-3 (read our review) and three new lenses, the Japanese camera maker has unveiled a new roadmap—its first since January 2024. The most significant update comes in the form of zooms, as OM System announces the development of a new telephoto zoom lens set to be released later this year.

Several key aspects stand out. First, this lens is expected to feature a 40-150mm focal length (equivalent to 80-300mm in full-frame terms). This range has already been explored with the M.Zuiko 40-150mm f/2.8 Pro and 40-150mm f/4 Pro. Second, the small visual representation suggests a rather large build (for a Micro Four Thirds lens). This could imply a very bright aperture—perhaps f/2.0.

A New Companion for the 150-400mm Super Telephoto Zoom?

This upcoming lens is also expected to feature a white finish. This immediately recalls the Olympus M.Zuiko Digital ED 150-400mm f/4.5 TC 1.25x IS PRO, launched by the brand in November 2020. With an integrated 1.25x teleconverter, it offers an optimized build and high-level performance—but comes at a steep price of €7,999. Let’s hope the (future) new OM System zoom will be more affordable

Finally, it’s worth noting that the three lenses launched by OM System last February (M.Zuiko Digital 17mm and 25mm f/1.8 II and M.Zuiko Digital ED 100-400mm f/5-6.3 IS II) are not listed on this roadmap. However, the arrival of other modernized Olympus lenses in the near future seems highly likely.

In any case, the Japanese brand appears to have some surprises for Micro Four Thirds camera users.
